The Deputy Minister for Environment
and Rural Development said:
“I am delighted to be able to announce
this European funding award to further develop the road network of Arran.
“I am aware of the need to improve
these sections of road to allow access to heavy loads and help industries
on the road – with this award progress can now be made. This will
provide a welcome boost to businesses in Arran.
“The Executive attaches a high priority
to addressing the challenges faced by rural communities. We want to close
the opportunity gap so everyone has the same chance to fulfil their potential,
no matter where in Scotland they live.
“This excellent project underlines
that aim – it will make a real difference to local people by helping improve
the viability of businesses on the route. It is making a real difference
to real people.
“I am pleased to announce that £205,000
of European Structural Funds will be going into the project. This underlines
the benefits Scotland gains from playing a key role in Europe as part of
a strong UK.”
