HCI brings benefits to Ayrshire patients - 30th September 2002

Local Labour MSP Allan Wilson has welcomed the Ayrshire & Arran waiting times success.

“The decision by the Scottish Executive to purchase the former private hospital, HCI Clydebank and use it to treat NHS patients on NHS waiting lists instead of rich Arabian businessmen and those with private medical insurance, has had a significant impact in the success of the Health Board in meeting Scottish Executive targets” said Mr Wilson.

“The doctors, nurses, administrators and all the healthcare teams in Ayrshire deserve our praise for this sterling effort, particularly when other health boards in other parts of Scotland have been struggling to meet their targets.”

“ To achieve such a significant reduction in waiting times while increasing year on year the numbers of patients being treated is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the staff, as well as an indication that the significant new investment by the Scottish Executive in new premises and better equipment, more staff and better pay is beginning to pay dividends in improved patient care” said Mr Wilson.
