SNP Ignoring Parliament Protocol - 18th June 2002

Commenting on Mr Martin’s (SNP candidate) release on the Dalry pathway row,

“Far from my politicising the issue it was Ms Ullrich who chose to enter the public domain with an attack on what she and now Mr Martin choose to refer to as the ‘Labour-controlled North Ayrshire Council’. It is also Ms Ullrich and now Mr Martin who chose to present West End resident’s case to the exclusion of all other interests without checking their facts. In short it was the Nationalists who sought to distort the facts and exploit the loss of amenity of West End residents for perceived political gain” said Mr Wilson.

I have never received a scrape of the pen from Ms Ullrich in over three years as an MSP from which I am bound to conclude that either she has NOT raised any constituency issues over that period or ALL of her constituents have asked that their consent should be withheld. I don’t believe either scenario to be true and I challenge Ms Ullrich to confirm or deny the accuracy of what I have said ” said Mr Wilson.

“Every other political party in Parliament complies with these protocols with the exception of the nationalists” claimed Mr Wilson.

Commenting on the SNP's list placements -

“Rank and file nationalists have delivered a massive snub to leader John Swinney with many of his so called ‘shadow cabinet’, such as my own opposition counterpart at the Environment, Fiona McLeod, being displaced by ‘fundamentalists’ such as Mr Martin.” said Mr Wilson.

“It also constitutes jobs for the boys with large numbers of women nationalist MSPs being replaced by male candidates and I challenge Mr Martin to follow the lead of fellow nationalist candidates, Stuart Stevenson and Danny Coffey and stand in this constituency only” said Mr Wilson.
