MSP looking For Constituents with Real Grit - 12th March 2002

Local MSP Allan Wilson is encouraging his constituents to nominate those members of the community who campaign for change for a new Citizenship Award.

The Oyster Awards are being organised by the Camelot Group in connection with the Sun newspaper. They provide a chance to recognise the hard work that individuals put into making their area a better place to live.

“These awards are an opportunity for the community to recognise and reward those individuals in their midst who through their own endeavours seek to make their communities a better place for all to live in.” said Mr Wilson.

“Standing up for what you believe in can on occasion be a lonely and frustrating experience for individuals but we are all better off as a consequence and the support of your peers can provide the necessary encouragement which can be the difference between that individual pursuing his or her vision against the odds to it’s fruition or abandoning it”.

“I know from personal experience that there are many such individuals in my constituency who qualify for such recognition for their efforts in the voluntary and charitable sectors but there must be many more not known to me who desrve the nomination.” said Mr Wilson.

People wishing to nominate someone can obtain an application form online at www.CitizensConnections.net or by phone on 0845 9100 000. Prizes include Oyster Award trophies and holiday vouchers.
