MSP Allan Wilson -
Valley on Verge of Broadband Revolution - 1st August 2003
Allan
Wilson MSP praised the Herald for assisting local communities secure
Broadband with it’s coverage of local campaigns and confirmed that the
Garnock Valley will soon join other communities across North Ayrshire in
securing Broadband connection.
“It is vital for the future commercial and economic development of the
Valley that we secure Broadband connection across all its constituent
communities and I have been in constant dialogue with local campaigners and
BT to facilitate its introduction across the board” said Mr Wilson.
“That endeavour and the dedication and commitment of local campaigners is
now beginning to pay off. Following a very successful campaign in Kilbirnie
the trigger level set by BT has been surpassed and the local exchange will
be enabled by BT Wholesale within the next 10-12 weeks” said Mr Wilson.
“Beith with a trigger level of 300 are within striking distance of following
suit and should join Kilbirnie in accessing Broadband in the next few weeks
at their present rate of registrations” said Mr Wilson.
“That would leave Dalry and I have been pressurising BT to look at new
technological alternatives if upgrading the exchange there is not yet cost
effective to ensure the town is not by-passed on the super highway”.
“Another alternative BT tell me is available from this week is a system
called Exchange Active and this method provides Broadband to a group of 30
customers, with no limit on the number of groups involved, at a more
affordable cost for each group of 30 customers”.
“I am sure that a concerted effort to secure support for complete or partial
Broadband within the town would be successful and my office will happily
assist in further liaison with BT as necessary to secure the best option for
Dalry” said Mr Wilson.
