Hunterston Celebrates
Record-Breaking Year
 ENERGY
Minister Brian Wilson MP has congratulated Mike Alexander, British Energy’s
new chief executive and Peter Tarren, Hunterston B’s station director, on a
record performance at the Ayrshire plant.
The nuclear power station notched up 8.9 billion units of electricity during
the last financial year,
which is a record for a year with planned maintenance shut-downs.
The Cunninghame North MP was welcomed to site by Mike Alexander and Peter
Tarren, and the minister then went on to speak about the focused work of the
staff to achieve this record best.
“Both as Energy Minister and as local MP, I am delighted to pay tribute to
the management and workforce at Hunterston B for the stations’
record-breaking performance over the past year,” said Mr Wilson.
It is a reminder of just how much the output of our nuclear power stations
contribute to the energy
needs of Scotland and the UK.
“I was also pleased to pay tribute to the long service given to Hunterston
by a number of employees. In the midst of all the debates about nuclear
power, it is sometimes forgotten that the industry is a high quality
employer which has maintained a highly-skilled, loyal and dedicated
workforce.”
Mr Alexander said: “This is a marvellous achievement for the station,
especially when last year was a difficult time for British Energy.
“As part of my schedule to visit all British Energy sites, I am pleased to
be able to congratulate our
staff at Hunterston on attaining this record.”
Station director Mr Tarren added: "This is a steady Improvement from the
previous best and we will
continue to remain focused on our record of safe, reliable generation.”
The VIP visitors also toured the station, meeting staff. |
