Local Boy Mark Roy Receives Certificate From First Minister Jack McConnell - 19th December 2003

Local boy Mark Roy, aged 11, of 12 McGillivray Avenue, Saltcoats was in Edinburgh this week to receive his certificate from First Minister Jack McConnell for his winning Christmas card design.

Mark, a pupil of Mayfield Primary in Saltcoats was the winner of the annual Christmas Card competition run by Cunninghame North’s MSP Allan Wilson.

Mark’s design depicting a melted snowman dancing by an open fire under a Saltire moon, was chosen from thousands of entries from North Ayrshire schools, to feature on Mr Wilson’s Christmas Cards.

Mark’s handiwork will now take its place on mantelpieces the length and breadth of the United Kingdom including 10 Downing Street and Bute House, the First Minister’s residence, where Mark received his prize from Jack McConnell (see attached picture) said Mr Wilson.

Mrs Eleanor Roy, Mark’s mother was delighted her youngest child had his artistic abilities recognised by the First Minister and said “Mark has always loved drawing since he was very young and this will encourage him to keep at it and develop his talent. It was a great day out”.
