£1 .2million cash
injection for local road upgrades
A
NEW access road leading to the APL Industrial Estate at Ardeer and the
eradication of a blackspot
stretch on the A737 between Beith and Dairy are the two most significant
improvements resulting from a
massive £1.2million roads grant to the area from the Scottish Executive.
Announcing the stunning investment, which will see the creation of an extra
roundabout and slip road
towards the sometimes deprived APL site, together with the shifting of part
of the A737 at the
notorious The Den turn, Transport Minister lain Gray declared: “This extra
money should make a real
difference to the efforts to improve access to the Ardeer site at
Stevenston, helping make the area a
more attractive business location.
“It is important we target this additional funding to those places that need
it most and where we can
make a real difference to local projects and regeneration. This is a good
example of that.”
Cunninghame North MSP Allan Wilson explained the details of the other
scheme.
He said: “The Den realignment, which will move the road north to a line
agreed by Strathclyde Region,
has been waiting on this investment for years.
“It will complement a £4m adaptation in the A737 at the Roadhead Roundabout,
scheduled to start soon.”
He added: “These two projects will be welcomed by commerce and commuter
alike.
“The other good news is the decision last week by the Western Strategic
Roads Authority to commence a
route action place study to incorporate the A737 into its strategic plan,
bringing a new Dairy by-pass
a significant step closer.”
The Executive windfall is to be used by the local authority and is to be
spent in 2003/2004. |
