New
figures from Camelot indicating that lottery awards in Cunninghame North
have broken through the £10million mark were welcomed by local Labour MSP
Allan Wilson.
“Without support from the various lottery funding bodies several projects of
significant benefit to my constituents in communities across the
constituency would never have got off the ground” said Mr Wilson.
“During my period in charge of lottery funding for the Scottish Executive I
saw at first hand the good causes that are supported by lottery funds and
the difference they can make to local communities here and throughout
Scotland” said Mr Wilson.
“Without lottery funding support neither the Garrison project on Cumbrae ,
prospectively the biggest single award, the Beith Township Heritage
Initiative or the Radio City project in Kilbirnie could have succeeded” said
Mr Wilson.
“And it’s not just the big awards that make a difference, this weeks ‘Awards
for All’ announcement demonstrates the breadth of smaller projects and
organisations which benefit locally from the lottery” said Mr Wilson.
“Such diverse organisations as the Garnock Choral Society, Arran Visual
Arts, the SNAP Craft group in Saltcoats, TASS Thistle Boys Club, Largs
Archery Club, Kids R Us and the Trinity Playgroup both of Beith, Ardrossan
Youth Association through to the Community of Arran Seabed Trust have all
benefited from the latest round of small awards and will put that money to
good use for wider community benefit.” said Mr Wilson.
“I would encourage all organisations working for the good of the community
to explore the potential for further lottery support and my office can
assist applicants who may not have made an application in the past or are
unsure how to go about applying” concluded Mr Wilson. |
