“This commitment represents a highly
satisfactory conclusion from my perspective to the representations made
to me by local councillor Liz McLardy that signage to West Kilbride needs
to be updated and improved to reflect the ongoing development of the craft
town initiative and address commercial concerns that West Kilbride Town
centre was being disadvantaged by current signage” said Mr Wilson.
“I have since spoken to both the Leader
of the Council, David O’Neil and the Chief Executive Bernard Devine to
appraise them of the offer from the Executive and this should now form
the basis of a settlement of this long running sore” said Mr Wilson.
“ I understand there to be a compromise
solution acceptable to all parties and the Council should now submit it’s
proposals, following their consideration of the matter, to the Executive
for their deliberation in accordance with current signing regulations”
concluded Mr Wilson.
Mr Lewis Macdonald said
“I explained at our meeting that I
remain of the view that this is very clearly a local issue which should
be determined by the Council but, following representations received from
Allan Wilson in relation to local considerations, should the Council wish
to change the name on the boundary signs to reflect the wishes of the local
community, the Scottish Executive is prepared, in this instance, to bear
the trunk road element of the cost of the changes”
