Cunninghame North constituency is set to benefit from new Scottish Executive
funding designed to help fight poverty in Scotland.
A
3 year Community Regeneration Fund package of £318 million has been
announced by the Scottish Executive.
Over £10.9m is to be invested locally on regeneration projects which will
help improve health and boost employment opportunities. Ten new anti-poverty
targets have also been unveiled by the Executive.
Welcoming the announcement Allan Wilson MSP said:
“Delivering social justice and tackling poverty is rightly at the top of
Labour’s priorities. This funding will help to increase employment
opportunities in North Ayrshire, giving people a clear route out of poverty.
It will also be used to tackle the serious health inequalities which exist
in our most deprived communities.”
“I am hopeful that along with the improved planning and service delivery
that Community Planning Partnerships can provide, this investment can help
create stronger, safer communities both here and across Scotland.”
“Combating poverty and closing the opportunity gap are two key objectives of
the Scottish Executive and this additional funding will help secure real
improvements on both fronts” said Mr Wilson
Communities Minister Malcolm Chisholm said:
"Our commitment and drive to break the cycle of deprivation across Scotland
has never been greater. I am proud of our anti-poverty record to date, but
recognise there is more work to do to ensure opportunities for all. I'm
confident this funding will provide even greater impetus to regenerate
communities and reduce poverty."
