Over 27,000 people
throughout Scotland have made their voices heard to the Smoking in Public
Places consultation and Cunninghame North MSP, Allan Wilson hopes more local
people will join the debate.
The consultation is looking at all aspects of smoking in public places, and
the effects of passive smoking in Scotland. It could lead to restrictions on
public smoking similar to those already in place in Ireland, Norway and New
York.
Urging people to get involved Allan Wilson MSP said:
“Both locally and nationally the response to the smoking consultation has
been informative. With three weeks to go the consultation has already
received twenty times more responses than any previous Scottish Executive
consultation.”
“I included a survey on the consultation within my own website several weeks
ago and the outcome of that survey and the wider national consultation will
influence my own view as well as the Executive’s legislative proposals.
Constituents can cast their vote by logging on to

to
have their say.”
“With Scotland having the highest rates of lung cancer in Europe it is clear
that there is a need to look at the possibility of introducing more smoke
free places in Scotland. Smokers’ make a personal choice to smoke, however
action to safeguard others from the second hand toxins and chemicals
contained in tobacco smoke must be investigated.”
