Mrs
Isobel Monahan of Beith Selected by Panel of Judges

The search for a champion
to represent Cunninghame North at the official opening of the new Scottish
Parliament in Edinburgh is at an end. Mrs Isobel Monahan of Beith was
selected by the panel of judges from a wide array of candidates each of whom
had made a significant contribution to their local community.
Speaking to the ‘Herald ‘ Mrs Monahan said she was ‘thrilled and delighted’
to have been chosen and was looking forward to the Parliament’s opening
ceremony.

award. Cunninghame North has so many volunteers doing so much good work that
I am extremely proud to have been chosen as their representative” said Mrs
Monahan.
“I have a love of history and to be part of history in the making will be
tremendously exciting for me. I would like to thank Beith & District
Community Council for nominating me and giving me this opportunity to
represent everyone involved in voluntary and charitable work in our
communities It’s a pity they can’t all be present”
This was a sentiment echoed by the sponsor of the contest, Allan Wilson MSP.
“ There was an extremely high calibre of entrant and I would wish to
recognise all that hard work and effort by commending six runners-up, each
of whom will be given the opportunity by me to have an organised tour of the
new Parliament complex, have lunch and spend some time meeting
Parliamentarians and seeing for themselves how the Parliamentary process
works at Holyrood.”
The seven local community representatives commended are,
Mr Andrew Bryson of Ardrossan
Ken Welch of Largs
Ian Hardie of Kilbirnie
John Millar of Fairlie
Sandy Kerr of Dalry
Lesley Aitken of Saltcoats
“ I would like to thank all of those who participated and congratulate each
of the nominees selected .I am particularly grateful to the judging panel,
Alex Clark (editor of the Herald) Drew Cochrane (Editor of Largs News) and
Brian Wilson MP for performing the difficult task of ranking the candidates,
as each would have been worthy winners in their own right”
