Introduction
and Purpose
This
profile has been compiled by staff at NHS Health Scotland1 in collaboration
with the Information and Statistics Division (ISD) of
NHS Scotland and Communities Scotland as part of a major piece of work to
produce health and well-being profiles for 66 communities across Scotland.
Defining the
‘Community’ and Areas Within
Each
community profile contains a compilation of health and well-being indicators
for the community as a whole and for postcode
sectors within the community. In each case the community has been defined on
the basis of either an existing Local Healthcare Cooperative (LHCC) boundary
or one of the emerging Community Health Partnership (CHP) areas.
Content
Each
community profile comprises a series of trend and ‘spine’ graphs for each
postcode sector in a community and for the community as a whole. Summary
graphs showing a selection
of indicators for all sectors and the community are included towards the end
of each profile.
The trend graphs show trends over time for the following indicators: male
life expectancy; female life expectancy; claimant unemployment; smoking
during pregnancy; hospital admissions
for alcohol related and attributable conditions, cancer, heart disease and
diabetes.
Trend and Spine
Graphs
The graphs
show trend graphs (where possible) and ‘spine’ graphs for the community as a
whole and for every (merged) postcode sector in the community.
