Additional plans
advanced to spend £4 million on improvements to the A737
The
study into the case for a Dalry By-pass will be completed by the end of June
- and in the meantime plans are advancing for £4 million to be spent on
improvements to the A737.
Allan Wilson MSP, who has been pressing Ministerial colleagues in the
Scottish Executive for a Dalry By-pass, welcomed the "progress report" which
he received this week from Transport Minister, Nicol Stephen who visited
Dalry last year to launch the study.
Mr Stephen also detailed the status of other improvements to the A737:
· A £1 million improvement to the Head Street Roundabout on the Beith
By-pass will be on-site by September subject to there being no objections
during the consultation process;
· At the Barrmill Road junction with the Beith By-pass, Discussions about
drainage issues are going on between North Ayrshire Council and SEPA. Once
these are concluded, the £1.5 million project is scheduled for next year's
budget;
· The Roadhead Roundabout is to benefit from a £1.25 million improvement
project. Mr Stephen tells Mr Wilson: "To minimise inconvenience to the
travelling public this scheme will be programmed to start following
completion of the Head Street Roundabout scheme" - in spring next year.
· There is also to be a £1.5 million realignment of the The Den, Dalry with
construction starting in August of this year.
· Finally, a number of minor safety improvements are to be carried out
including better signing, lining and road marking.
Allan Wilson said: "I am awaiting the outcome of the Dalry By-pass study
with a great deal of interest. In co-operation with the local community, we
have really got things moving on this over the past year and the study is a
vital part of the process.
"All of the other projects confirmed by Nicol Stephen are extremely welcome
and are consistent with the overall upgrading of the A737." Mr Wilson
praised the "close personal interest" that Mr Stephen has taken in the issue
following his visit to Dalry in June of last year.
Retiring Cunninghame North MP, Brian Wilson, said: "Improved road links
within the constituency have always been a crucial economic issue. It is
very gratifying that, after years of waiting, so much progress is now being
made - first the Three Towns By-pass and now, hopefully, Dalry".
