Constituency
MSP and Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson has welcomed the establishment of a
limited company by Fairlie community to register an interest under the Land
Reform Act in approximately 8 hectares of land near Fairlie primary school.
"This is the first such expression of interest by a community in my
constituency since I piloted the land Reform Bill through the Scottish
Parliament in the last session and I am pleased to see that it is intended
to use the Act to provide for the community interest in land currently in
community use and to involve the school in it's further development" .
"That was precisely the purpose behind part Two of the Act and extending
rights of community ownership to rural settlements like Fairlie is an
important part of promoting wider land ownership more generally in the
public interest" said Mr Wilson.
"The application has been received by the Executive who will now await any
comments from the landowner, the Earl of Glasgow, the deadline for which is
23rd June. I am hopeful that the process will conclude with the registration
of the community interest and that in the event of the land coming on the
market at some future date, the community can secure ownership of it and use
that ownership for the benefit of future generations of Fairlie residents"
