Rate Cut Good News
for Local Business.
The decision
has been widely welcomed by local business organisations including the
Federation of Small Businesses
and Chambers of Commerce.

Enterprise Minister and local MSP Allan Wilson has welcomed plans announced
by First Minister Jack Mc Connell to cut Business rates for local firms.
"Growing the economy is our number one priority and we are determined to
secure a competitive advantage for local businesses where possible " said Mr
Wilson.
"My colleagues and I all received representations from local business
organisations and we have been listening to what they say. Businesses told
us that that business rates can be critical to their success and we wanted
to provide further incentives to improve their competitiveness" said Mr
Wilson.
"Our policy of limiting rate increases to inflation or below has meant that
compared to England the burden has been reducing but now we are going
further and by announcing steps to reduce business rate poundage in line
with England every business will benefit and competitive advantage will be
secured" said Mr Wilson.
"This is a cornerstone of building business success and will give local
businesses on Arran the opportunity to share in our ambitions for this area
and allow them to undertake greater investment, recruitment and research and
help grow the local economy"
"We will also consult later in the year on the feasibility of reducing
business rate for companies undertaking research and development as one of
the key determinants of improved innovation and I hope some local businesses
on
Arran will also be beneficiaries of that additional boost to
competitiveness".
"This decision has been widely welcomed by local business organisations
including the Federation of Small Businesses and Chambers of Commerce and I
look forward to working with them further on our plans for stimulating local
business growth" said Mr Wilson
