Allan Wilson sets up
a meeting with Transport Minister to discuss Largs – Cumbrae Calmac
ferry route issues
Allan Wilson sets up a meeting with Transport Minister Nicol Stephen in
Edinburgh to discuss the issues on the Largs – Cumbrae Calmac ferry route.
Following his receipt of several hundred letters from Cumbrae residents
addressed to Transport official John Davidson of the Scottish Executive,
local MSP and Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson offered to set up a meeting
with Transport Minister Nicol Stephen in Edinburgh to discuss the issues on
the Largs – Cumbrae Calmac ferry route.
“I have been working closely with Dr Bryson and his colleagues on the Isle
of Cumbrae Ferry Users Group and support their efforts to secure extended
day and more frequent sailings on the route” said Mr Wilson.
“”I will ensure that the views of my constituents are fed into the current
consultation on the tender specification for Calmac services and further
arrange for the Users Group to put their concerns and aspirations for the
route directly to the Minister” said Mr Wilson.
“I have also been in close liaison with my Colleague at an Executive level
on the tender issue as the Cumbrae economy, as with all islands served by
Calmac, depends on its links to the mainland for its future economic
prosperity.”
“It is therefore a matter of considerable importance to the economic
development of Cumbrae that the optimum service is secured for the islanders
within the proposed specification and that where possible improvements in
service levels are delivered to boost its relative economic performance”
said Mr Wilson.
“I recently convened a meeting with the Minister and his officials with the
Arran Ferry committee and I think everyone concerned considered that a
worthwhile exercise. I am hopeful therefore that the meeting proposed
between the Minister and the Cumbrae Ferry Users Group will be equally
productive” concluded Mr Wilson.
