A public meeting
held in Dalry Community Centre backs plans for an eastern
by pass of the town.
The various
points made at the meeting in relation to a number of the options under
consideration will be re-assessed in the light of the representations made.

Local MSP Allan Wilson has welcomed the outcome of a public meeting held in
Dalry Community Centre which has backed
plans for an eastern by pass of the town.
About 100 local people including local businesses and residents groups,
heard representatives of the Scottish Executive and North Ayrshire Council
make a presentation and answer questions on traffic management proposals for
the town.
The well attended public meeting hosted by Mouchel Parkman Consultants, was
also attended by Scottish Executive Minister Allan Wilson who said,
“This was very encouraging from my perspective as someone who has championed
the construction of the By Pass to the STAG Appraisal stage and will
continue to argue within the Scottish Executive for the A737 to feature in
the strategic roads review planned for 2006/07.”
“Support was also expressed at the meeting for my other suggestion for a
route corridor study between the A737 south of Dalry and the A78 at the
Sharphill Roundabout to consider by passing Kilwinning and this proposal
will be included in the Strategic Projects Review pending the outcome of the
traffic monitoring exercise following the opening of the Three Towns By
Pass” said Mr Wilson.
“There were however a number of other suggestions made at the meeting for
improving traffic flows in and out of Dalry which will receive the
consideration of the consultants and Scottish Executive as well as local
authority roads and planning officials as part of their assessment of the
public’s response to the draft options” said Mr Wilson.
“As was made clear by officials at the meeting the various points made in
relation to a number of the options under consideration will be re-assessed
in the light of representations made both at the meeting and subsequently
via local Councillor John Reid” said Mr Wilson.
“In particular, the concerns expressed about the safety of school children
in Roche Way and of heavy goods vehicles diverting through residential areas
will be addressed by the consultants in their options appraisal” said Mr
Wilson.
“I welcome the extension of the consultation period and would hope that
everyone who wants to contribute to the current consultation does so either
through Councillor Reid or directly to the Consultants at Calder House
Tannochside Park, Uddingston, Glasgow G71 5PW” said Mr Wilson.
Councillor John Reid who offered to collate community views and channel them
to the Council and the Consultants said,
“Anyone with residual concerns who was unable to attend the meeting or wants
to otherwise express their approval or disapproval of any of the options
under consideration should contact me this week or next and I will ensure
their views are passed onto the appropriate officials.”
