Executive to establish energy performance certificates for buildings.
MSP says eco-friendly day in Parliament proves
Executive’s commitment to a greener
healthier Scotland.

Allan Wilson MSP says urgent commitments made by the Scottish Executive
today will improve quality of life, protect natural resources and reduce
Scotland’s impact on the global environment.
Recent estimates show that the area of land and sea needed to provide all
the resources currently consumed in Scotland is 2.4 times the global
average.
The Cunninghame North MSP was speaking following a day of ‘green’ pledges
from the Scottish Executive which began with the publication of Scotland's
first Sustainable Development Strategy, followed an announcement from Deputy
Communities Minister Johann Lamont on the energy performance of buildings
directive.
The Strategy details actions which must be taken by government, business and
consumers to improve our environment and resources. The strategy will ensure
that our environment, society and economy are taken into account when major
decisions are taken – meaning that future developments will be about more
than just financial implications.
The announcement by the Deputy Communities Minister highlighted the
introduction of energy performance certificates for buildings. The
certificates will act as indicators to potential owners on the energy
efficiency of the property and will take into account boiler efficiency,
heating controls, thermal insulation and areas of glazing.
Speaking about the publication and announcement, Allan Wilson said:
“Scotland, like other developed countries, is using an unfair and
unsustainable share of the world’s resources.”
“The publication of Scotland’s first Sustainable Development Strategy is a
huge step towards reducing our unfair share of these valuable resources and
I welcome the contents of the strategy, particularly the commitment that
future
development decisions will be taken with the environmental and social
implications being a major deciding factor.”
“The second commitment by the Executive to establish energy performance
certificates reinforces our commitment to ensuring Scotland becomes more
environmentally friendly and future generations are not left to deal with
our
problems.”
