Radio City Gets EU
Funding Boost.
European
Regional Development Fund support will
facilitate the development of 24 pre-five childcare
places and 16 out of school places for children aged
5-12 years at Radio City in Kilbirnie.

Enterprise Minister and local MSP Allan Wilson has delivered an EU funding
boost for Radio City in
Kilbirnie. Mr Wilson announced that the One Plus project would receive
£62,990 to locate its Childcare
Centre in the complex. Speaking at the announcement of over £21M in EU
funding across the West of
Scotland Mr Wilson said.
"European Regional Development Fund support will facilitate the development
of 24 pre-five childcare
places and 16 out of school places for children aged 5-12 years at Radio
City in Kilbirnie which is in an
area of high unemployment and limited childcare provision."
"The service will also provide the opportunity of employment for 14
childcare workers so enabling local
residents to gain the qualifications and experience to gain employment in a
growth sector."
"European funding has a critical role in supporting community regeneration
projects like this through
helping people with training and access to the labour market. 70% of the
childcare places available will
be allocated to the children of working age residents in the Social
Inclusion Partnership (SIP) area to
enable them to access training, education or work and therefore as a direct
result of being able to
access these services at least 60 SIP residents over the life of the project
will take up
employment/training opportunities" said Mr Wilson.
"Commenting on the award, Strathclyde European Partnership’s Chief
Executive, Laurie Russell, said:
“These European Funds will make a difference to the local community by
providing improved childcare
services and increasing the skills of the workforce and safeguarding local
jobs. Radio City is an
important partnership of different funders and EU funding adds value to the
mix of investment from the
Enterprise Networks, local authority, the volountary sector, further
education and the private sector”
