Funding has been
directed
toward 56 projects.
These awards
aim to improve the competitiveness of
West of Scotland businesses, support capital projects
and draw in investment and visitors.

Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning , Allan Wilson, has
announced a series of investment
which, it is hoped, will create at least 2,000 jobs in the west of Scotland
. The European Objective 2
funding has been directed toward 56 projects, which are focussed on economic
development and social
integration.
The awards are made to, among others, Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire
(£225,000), Scottish Enterprise
Ayrshire (£1m), the University of Glasgow (£223,000) and Govan Initiative
Ltd (£143,000).
Renfrewshire Council also receives £537,000 for reclamation of brownfield
sites and a further £1.13m to
enhance Renfrew town centre.
Speaking at Reid Kerr College in Paisley, Wilson said, "These awards aim to
improve the competitiveness
of West of Scotland businesses, support capital projects and draw in
investment and visitors.
"European funding also has a critical role in supporting community
regeneration and helping people with
training and access to the labour market.
"The £22 million in European grants is supported by a further £60 million
investment from the Enterprise
Networks, local authorities, the voluntary sector, further and higher
education, and the private sector.
"Across the West of Scotland, this partnership is improving the lives of
individuals and the fabric of
communities."
The investment is part of a rolling programme set out from 2000 to 2006,
which will have seen £600m
invested in the area by the end of next year. To date it has provided
support for around 800 projects
since 2000.
