Spending on Local
Health Services is Set to Rise Dramatically.
Spending
on local health services is set to rise dramatically following an
announcement from the Scottish Executive this week.
Across Scotland funding for NHS Boards is set to rise by an average of 7.6
per cent and the Scottish Executive has confirmed that spending on health in
Ayrshire will increase by 8.29% this year, rising to over £462.8 million.
Allan Wilson MSP believes the additional funding can help to reduce waiting
times in Ayrshire still further and ensure the very best care for patients
in Cunninghame North, he said:
“This is good news for patients in Ayrshire. This increased investment will
allow the Health Board to take further action on waiting times, recruit more
doctors and nurses, and ensure that patients in Ayrshire receive the very
best care available. It will also allow the health service to continue to
make progress on cutting heart disease, cancer and strokes, and address the
health inequalities that exist in our communities.”
“This funding is a further measure of the Labour’s commitment to creating a
modern and efficient health service, free at the point of need. In contrast
the Tories are proposing to charge people for treatment, destroying the
principle of equality on which the NHS was built. The choice for people in
Ayrshire is clear - a modern NHS with Labour or an end to the NHS as the
Tories force people to pay for treatment.”
“I am pleased that the increase for Ayrshire exceeds the Scottish average
increase of 7.6 per cent for NHS boards in 2005-06. These additional
resources will help the NHS in the drive to modernise services and assist
dedicated NHS Staff in delivering quality care to patients where and when
they need it, driving up standards of service and driving down waiting
times.”
