The
campaign is clear - don’t risk
drinking and driving.
North Ayrshire residents are urged not to risk
everything for the sake of a drink during the summer months.

Cunninghame North MSP
Allan Wilson is urging North Ayrshire residents not to risk everything for
the sake of a drink during the summer months.
The Labour politician was speaking following the launch of a Scottish
Executive summer drink-drive campaign, which aims to highlight that the
consequences of drink driving may start with being arrested and the loss of
your licence, but could also cost you your job and your home and social
life.
Speaking about the television and poster adverts, Allan Wilson MSP said
“With the arrival of the long summer evenings and the World Cup, a barbecue
and drink in the garden or down the pub is an attractive thought.”
"The Road Safety Scotland campaign is designed to raise awareness of the
consequences of drink driving, particularly among young male drivers who are
most likely to ignore conventional warnings portraying road crashes and loss
of life. Instead this campaign aims to highlight the more personal
consequences of drink driving, like losing your license and going to jail.”
“The campaign is clear - don’t risk drinking and driving. If you are going
to have a drink, leave the car behind and remember that you may still be
over the limit the following day. Strathclyde Police will be following the
campaign by clamping down on drink driving over the next few months.”
Figures from the Department for Transport estimate that around 50 people die
and a further 240 people are seriously injured each year on Scotland's roads
as a result of drink-driving.
NOTE:
Drink-driving legislation is a reserved matter, but road safety publicity
and advertising is undertaken on behalf of the Executive by Road Safety
Scotland, part of the Transport Group within the Enterprise, Transport and
Lifelong Learning Department.
