Executive’s
Drug Dealers Don’t Care Campaign.
The campaign is designed to encourage the public to
give information anonymously to Crimestoppers Scotland on 0800 555 111,
about drug dealers operating in their area.

Local Labour MSP Allan
Wilson is calling on North Ayrshire residents to help get drug dealers off
the streets.
Allan Wilson MSP is urging local residents to back the Executive’s Drug
Dealers Don’t Care Campaign which was so successful last year that it
resulted in the arrest of 428 dealers and the seizure of more than £1.5m
worth of drugs and cash across Scotland.
The Cunninghame North MSP says the campaign is designed to encourage the
public to give information anonymously to Crimestoppers Scotland on 0800 555
111, about drug dealers operating in their area. This information is then
passed to the police to enable them to build up sufficient intelligence to
arrest these individuals and stop them peddling this evil trade.
Speaking about the campaign, Allan Wilson MSP said:
“Despite crime in North Ayrshire falling, crimes involving drugs continue to
rise across Scotland. North Ayrshire communities need support to ensure that
their communities are not overtaken by the fear and misery caused by so
called Mr Bigs.
“Last year the Drug Dealers Don’t Care Campaign resulted in a substantial
number of arrests and seizures of drug money. I hope North Ayrshire
residents will again get behind this campaign and do their bit to rid our
streets of these dealers. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers
on 0800 555 111. Their lines are open 24/7 and your information could be
what the police need to get one of these criminals off our streets.”
As part of the ongoing campaign, the Drug Dealers Don’t Care road show truck
will be at Morrison’s Car Park, Stevenston on Saturday 30th September.
Notes:
This year’s DDDC campaign will have a localised approach with two wards in
six local authority areas being targeted by a publicity campaign in the
local media and other related pr activity.
The area’s
are as follows:
Inverclyde – Greenock East Central and Port Glasgow East (4-17 Sep)
Glasgow – Govan and Barlanark (4-17 Sep)
Renfrewshire – St James and Ferguslie (18 Sep – 1 Oct)
Edinburgh – Holyrood and Muirhouse (18 Sep – 1 Oct)
North Ayrshire – Stevenson North and Irvine West – (18 Sep – 1 Oct)
West Dunbartonshire – Dumbarton North and Whitecrook (2-15 Oct)
As well as adverts and features in the local press and radio, posters will
be put up in the areas concerned in locations such as large advertising
hoardings, bus shelters and telephone boxes. There will also be an envelope
drop to people living in the areas which will include details of how to
contact Crimestoppers.
The Justice Minister announced in March this year that around two million
pounds of the proceeds of crime were to be invested in the six crime-hit
areas above. The money will support initiatives aimed at reducing crime,
improving people’s quality of life and visibly repairing the harm caused to
communities through the impact of serious violent crime.
The latest phase of the DDDC campaign, which costs 370,000 pounds, is being
funded entirely through assets seized from criminals under the Proceeds of
Crime Act 2002.
As part of the DDDC campaign, a road show truck is to visit the local
authority areas concerned to raise awareness of the campaign among the local
communities.
