complete.
The
way is about to be cleared for two vital improvements to the A737, according
to Allan Wilson, MSP for Cunninghame North, who has been chasing progress
with Scottish Executive officials.
Mr Wilson told the Herald that the necessary formalities for Compulsory
Purchase Orders on the Beith By-pass Roundabout and the Head Street Junction
are now virtually complete and he has been assured that, subject to there
being no objections when they are advertised shortly, work will start by the
summer.
"It is an unfortunate fact that legal formalities take longer than anyone
would wish," said Mr Wilson.
"However, funding is in place for these projects and, barring any objections
to the statutory procedures, we are now on the last lap".
Mr Wilson also obtained an update on the realignment of The Den, Dalry,
which is being funded by North Ayrshire Council although - because the A737
is a trunk road - the legal groundwork has to be undertaken by
the Scottish Executive. This includes an environmental assessment.
The MSP said: "In this case, the land has been acquired but because the
scheme passes over old mine workings the Executive has had to obtain a
report from a specialist surveyor. This has held things up but Executive
officials tell me that they expect to conclude the process within the next
couple of months at which point there will be a final public consultation.
"I am very well aware that North Ayrshire Council cannot move on this
project until the statutory proceedings are complete and I will continue to
press officials to keep to the timetable that they have given me."
