NHS
Ayrshire and Arran are to receive £437,000 from the Scottish Executive to
build a new dental centre in Kilbirnie and improve services for local
patients.
The Scottish Executive has announced that Kilbirnie is to be one of the
first 30 dental premises to receive a chunk of the £30 million funding
package for NHS dentists in Scotland.
Commenting on this major cash injection for NHS dentistry in Kilbirnie,
Allan Wilson MSP said:
“When the single NHS Ayrshire & Arran dental practice in Kilbirnie was sold
in March last year and the new practice said it was only to treat private
adult patients and the children of those patients registered on an NHS
basis, I immediately made representations to the Health Board and the
Executive for replacement NHS cover.”
“I am therefore delighted that these representations have come to fruition
and local people will continue to have access to first class dental health
care on the NHS without feeling pressurised into joining the dental
equivalent of a ‘get rich quick’ scheme to ensure their children are treated
on the NHS” said Mr Wilson
“This investment underlines the Scottish Executive’s ongoing commitment to
provide state of the art facilities for NHS patients and bring the training
of dental professionals into the community to deliver better services for
local patients. It is now proposed to build new dental facilities to be
housed within a two surgery satellite facility in Kilbirnie Health Centre.”
“The Scottish Executive has also announced that £4.5 million of the funding
announced through the Executive’s Dental Action Plan for rent reimbursement
and increased General Dental Practitioner (GDP) allowances, will reach NHS
committed dentists this week” said Mr Wilson.
“Our priority will always be to reward dentists who are committed to the NHS
and to ensure that patients who want to access NHS dental services can do so
wherever they live” said Mr Wilson
