Winners to
Receive up to £5,000 to Spend on Activity to Stop ASB in Their Area.
The Antisocial Behaviour Act gave the council and
police the measures they needed to
tackle offenders.
Local
Labour MSP Allan Wilson has issued a call to Constituents to help find local
residents who have made a real difference in tackling antisocial behaviour
in their community.
The Cunninghame North MSP made the call as Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson
launched the Standing Up to
Antisocial Behaviour Awards 2006, which aim to raise awareness of the
difference individuals and groups can make in their community. Allan Wilson
MSP wants North Ayrshire residents to make sure local heroes are nominated
and get the recognition they deserve for the work they have done to tackle
antisocial behaviour.
Nominations must be received by 30th June and any North Ayrshire resident
can nominate an individual or group for an award. There are four categories
of awards – individuals, local groups or projects, young people (individuals
or groups under 18), and “above and beyond” where officials such as
community wardens, local housing staff or a school for example have gone
above and beyond the call of duty to tackle antisocial behaviour.
Speaking about the awards, Allan Wilson MSP said:
“The Antisocial Behaviour Act gave the council and police the measures they
needed to tackle offenders, and we know the measures are making a
difference. However, we also know that local people are helping their
community by making their contribution, and they deserve to be recognised.
“I would urge North Ayrshire residents who know of a local individual or
group who have made a difference. It could be a group of young people who
have been raising money for a local facility, like a skatepark, or an
individual who witnessed antisocial behaviour and gave evidence in court. It
could even
be a community warden or police officer who has gone above and beyond the
call of duty. This is our chance to say thank you.”
To nominate, constituents should log on to:
www.antisocialbehaviourscotland.com
or call 0800 169 5013
for a nomination form. Readers can also write to Allan Wilson MSP with their
nominations at Parliamentary Information Centre, 55 Hamilton Street,
Saltcoats, KA21 5DX.
Note:
The Standing up to Antisocial Behaviour Awards Scheme 2006 has been
organised by the Scottish Executive in partnership with the Co-op.
This is the second year of the scheme, which aims to recognise the drive,
courage and commitment of people who have tackled antisocial behaviour and
made a real difference in their area and community.
The winners will receive up to £5,000 to spend on an activity to stop
antisocial behaviour in their area.
