Labour MSP Allan Wilson has welcomed the publication of statistics which
shows an increase in funding per pupil in North Ayrshire primaries from
£3,644-00 to £3,975-00 and in secondary's from £5,110-00 to £5,379-00.
The Cunninghame North MSP was speaking following the publication of the
Scottish Executive statistics publication on the expenditure on school
education, which highlights record levels of funding is being spent on
education in North Ayrshire.
Speaking about the publication, Allan Wilson said:
“I welcome the publication of these statistics which shows that local
primary pupils benefited from an increase of £331-00 per head and secondary
pupils £269-00 per head between 03-04 and 04-05.
“Across Scotland in 2004-05, primary spending reached £1.5 billion and
secondary spending reached £1.7 billion.
This record spending on education has helped to drive up local attainment
levels; lower our class sizes and recruit more teachers and support staff.”
