Waiting
times have been reduced to the lowest ever recorded.
Report shows Ayrshire and Arran Health Board reduced
number of patients waiting from 590 patients in 2002 to 2 patients waiting
more than six months in 2005.

North MSP Allan Wilson has welcomed statistics published today which
highlight the best performance ever recorded for inpatient and day case
waiting times for North Ayrshire residents.
The report, published today, shows that Ayrshire and Arran Health Board had
590 patients waiting for inpatient/daycare in December 2002 and that this
number had reduced to 2 patients waiting more than six months by December
2005
The Scottish Executive set targets across Scotland which aimed to ensure
patients waited no more than six months for inpatient/day cases; 6 months
for new outpatients; maximum of 8 weeks for heart investigations and a
maximum of 18 weeks for heart treatments.
The Scottish Executive now intend to set the targets at 18 weeks for
inpatients and outpatients and 9 weeks for diagnostics by 2007.
Speaking about the report, Allan Wilson MSP said:
“In 2002, there were 590 people waiting for unlimited lengths of time to
receive inpatient day treatment – in March this year there was no-one in the
Ayrshire and Arran Health Board area waiting more than six months. This is
excellent news for my constituents, and even better that progress is now
being made to reducing that target to 18 weeks by 2007.
“I am very grateful to local NHS staff for their hard work which has
delivered for thousands of North Ayrshire residents across the area.”
