There have
been ten accidents at this location in the past five years.
It is imperative that interim steps are taken to
protect residents and other road users.

Allan Wilson MSP has
proposed additional safety measures for A737 at the Den near Dalry following
a spate of accidents in recent months.
"The re-alignment of the bad bend at the Den is not scheduled to commence
until April 2008 so I felt that it was imperative that interim steps were
taken by the Scottish Executive, in conjunction with the local Authority, to
protect residents and other road users in the meantime." said Mr Wilson.
"There have been ten accidents at this location in the past five years and
this safety record was one of the reasons why North Ayrshire Council took
the decision three years ago to spend the additional £1millon from the
Scottish Executive on re-aligning this route. Recent incidents have,
however, highlighted the dangerous nature of this bend and as a consequence,
the Scottish Executive is, as a matter of urgency, proposing some holding
AIP (Accident Investigation and Prevention) measures pending the
implementation of the major works."
"This is likely to include high friction surfacing, upgraded signing and
Vehicle Activated Signing, designed to reduce speeds, improve road holding
and warn drivers of the hazardous nature of the bend they are approaching.
Subject to approval by the Transport Minister, I have been given a timetable
of three months for their completion."
" I hope that these measures will improve safety in the period before the
re-alignment is complete and help prevent the type of accidents we have seen
at this location recently" said Mr Wilson
