Despite
crime in North Ayrshire falling, crimes involving drugs continue to rise
across Scotland.
Although Police numbers have increased substantially
across North Ayrshire and Strathclyde more generally, the division of that
extra resource has not matched the increased activity in North Ayrshire.

Cunninghame North MSP
Allan Wilson has written to Chief Constable Willie Rae of Strathclyde Police
seeking an ‘increase in frontline police’ for his Cunninghame North
constituency.
““Despite crime in North Ayrshire falling, crimes involving drugs continue
to rise across Scotland. North Ayrshire communities need support to ensure
that their communities are not overtaken by the fear and misery caused by
drugs.”
“Although Police numbers have increased substantially across North Ayrshire
and Strathclyde more generally, the division of that extra resource has not
matched the increased activity in North Ayrshire in comparison with other
parts of the region” claimed Mr Wilson.
“While I understand there will always be fluctuations in operational demand
across the region I think the deployment of the additional Police officers
should match activity in the various Divisions and in that context I believe
North Ayrshire has been treated less favourably than, for example, certain
Glasgow Divisions” said Mr Wilson.
Consequently, I believe the Chief Constable should review the deployment of
the Strathclyde Force to redress the imbalance in provision in this part of
Strathclyde” said Mr Wilson.
Speaking at the ‘Drug Dealers Don’t Care’ campaign launch in Stevenston, Mr
Wilson said,
“Last year the Drug Dealers Don’t Care Campaign resulted in a substantial
number of arrests and seizures of drug money. I hope North Ayrshire
residents will again get behind this campaign and do their bit to rid our
streets of these dealers. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers
on 0800 555 111. Their lines are open 24/7 and your information could be
what the police need to get one of these criminals off our streets.”
