MSP Allan Wilson Wants Free ATMs Across North Ayrshire -
31st July 2006

North Ayrshire MSP Allan Wilson Responds Quickly to Offers by The RBS And HBOS.
The Three Towns, the Garnock Valley and Arran are good cases for their deployment.

Local MSP Allan Wilson is seeking to extend the coverage of free-to use ATM cash machines to include every community in North Ayrshire.

The move follows an announcement by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) that it is to install 300 such machines in some of the UK's poorest locations and more remote rural areas. Halifax and Bank of Scotland (HBOS) followed that announcement with plans of their own for 100 new machines where no such ATMs were currently sited.

MSP Allan Wilson has responded quickly to the offers by the RBS and HBOS to 400 free to use cash machines by suggesting his constituency could host one or more such machines.

“RBS has invited members of Parliament to nominate areas where they think the new cash machines should be located and I immediately thought of The Three Towns, the Garnock Valley and Arran as good cases for their deployment” said Mr Wilson.

“As a frequent visitor to Arran I am aware that in parts of the island securing quick and easy access to your own cash from an ATM can be costly particularly if you are elderly or infirm or don’t have access to transport. Equally there are very rural parts of the Garnock Valley such as Gateside, Barrmill and Burnside for example where additional machines might be deployed locally to the advantage of my constituents ” said Mr Wilson

"Ardrossan lost its last bank when the Clydesdale moved out several years ago and constituents there as well as in other towns in this area could also benefit from the extension of such a basic service into residential areas outside the town centre".

“I would be pleased to hear from constituents in this situation and I will use their examples to press the case for Cunninghame North to be included in this exercise and hopefully secure more ‘free-to-use’ ATMs for this area” said Mr Wilson.
