Design work
on the Dalry By-Pass is now being taken forward by the Scottish Executive.
The £26 million Three Towns By-pass has "helped to
open up North Ayrshire" and that further improvements will have a similar
effect.

Further improvement of the
roads network in North Ayrshire will bring substantial economic benefits,
Allan Wilson MSP said in the Scottish Parliament last week.
He was responding, in his Ministerial role, to a question from neighbouring
MSP, Irene Oldfather, about economic development initiatives in North
Ayrshire - and the part that further upgrading of the A737 could play.
Mr Wilson said that the £26 million Three Towns By-pass had "helped to open
up North Ayrshire" and that further improvements would have a similar
effect. He stressed that design work on the Dalry By-Pass is now being taken
forward by the Scottish Executive.
"The necessary tender documents have been commissioned with a view to
appointing a design consultant to carry out this work.
Part of the design commission will be to review previous design work against
current standards Thereafter it is a vital the Strategic Roads Review takes
forward the necessary investment that he Labour Party will commit to " said
Mr Wilson.
"There are four further improvement schemes planned for the A737 at a cost
of £6m and the construction of the first two of these will follow a sequence
specifically designed to minimise traffic disruption on the route."
"The Roadhead roundabout scheme is in the 2006 / 07 trunk road programme.
Draft road orders and a compulsory purchase order were published in June
2006 and the Scottish Executive are currently negotiating resolution of 2
objections received to the orders. Tenders will be invited when the
objections have been resolved."
"The Head Street roundabout scheme is also in the 2006 / 07 trunk roads
programme. The construction of this scheme requires the publication of roads
orders and a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of the necessary
land. Transport Scotland is currently preparing draft orders for the
scheme and we expect these to be published shortly."
"Thereafter, provided there are no objections, the Executive intend to
invite tenders early in 2007. The work is expected to take approximately ten
weeks to complete, however the exact programming of the scheme will take
into consideration progress of the A737 Roadhead Roundabout, which is also
scheduled to commence in early 2007."
