a further £144,512.

Radio City in Kilbirnie is
to receive a further £144,512 through the most recent round of European
Structural Funds (ESF).
Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning and local MSP Allan
Wilson announced that the Garnock Valley centre is among one of 20 projects
in the West of Scotland to benefit from the latest round of EU Structural
funds, totalling £8.9m from the European Social Fund
(ESF) , which will focus on social regeneration across the region.
Mr Wilson said:
“This ESF investment is very good news for Radio City – benefiting both
individuals and the local communities alike - through a new training and
skills development project.
"Radio City is a great example of what can be achieved when local
politicians work together with supportive government agencies and public
bodies. I am delighted that this latest influx of money to Radio City will
help to secure its place in the community.
"It is a building that means a great deal to the people of Kilbirnie and it
is easy to forget that just a few years ago, it was a derelict bingo hall
which - without a great team effort - would long since have been reduced to
rubble. I am delighted to have been involved in that process at every
stage".
“ Three Towns ILM Childcare Project in North Ayrshire will receive the cash
to train over 40 local single parents to SVQ level 2. The programme will
offer real opportunities to get people back into the job market and
ultimately benefit the local community through increased childcare places.
“Improved childcare provision is vital to enable single parents to access
the employment opportunities that are available more generally. There is no
point in creating new jobs, as we are doing, if people can’t then avail
themselves of these new employment opportunities due to their childcare
responsibility.”
“This project combines new training and prospective job opportunities with
additional childcare facilities for local parents included in this latest
investment It will make a will make a positive difference to people in the
Garnock Valley and beyond – and that’s what ESF is about.” said Mr Wilson.
The project sponsor is One Plus. The project will allow 22 current and a
further 22 new participants to gain work experience and qualifications. The
participants will be recruited from the North Ayrshire Social Inclusion
Partnership area.
The course is designed to meet the needs of lone parents and other
disadvantaged groups and address the barriers they face.
It provides a package of support e.g. childcare, rate for job, flexible
hours and travel costs to meet the practical issues preventing
participation, and is linked with a training programme. Vocational Training
to SVQ level 2, Play Work or Early Years, is provided. This includes work
experience, vocational guidance and an aftercare programme. Participants
also have access to specialist support services offered by One Plus
including advice/counselling and support for children.
Participants will be placed directly into new and existing services which
directly increases the number of childcare places that can be offered. 84%
of previous participants moved into positive destinations in either
employment or training/education.
