Deputy Enterprise Minister
and local MSP Allan Wilson has welcomed the announcement by Deputy
Communities Minister, Des McNulty that the Saltcoats based Irvine Bay Urban
Regeneration company (URC) is to receive £1.15m in early action funding from
the Scottish Executive.
The money is to be spent purchasing two run down vacant listed buildings in
Ardrossan town centre and refurbishing them to create much needed office and
retail space.
Speaking at the former bank building in Princes Street, Ardrossan, Mr Wilson
said “This significant investment by the Executive is another important
milestone in the regeneration of the area, improving the perception of
Ardrossan town centre and raising investor confidence”.
“The URC is on the right track and with the support and assistance of other
public and private investors and most importantly – the buy-in of local
people for their plans – Ardrossan town centre can be transformed into a
vibrant, vital and visually attractive place to live and work”.
“It is important in projects of this nature to deliver quality in planning
and design and I know the URC share my ambitions for ensuring that the
regeneration of Ardrossan Town Centre is on a par with the best in Scotland,
if not better” said Mr Wilson.
