State-of-the-art play
equipment, climbing frames and playmats for nurseries, pre-school and
out-of-school childcare centres in North Ayrshire thanks to an additional
funding boost from the Scottish Executive – says local Labour MSP Allan
Wilson
As part of the Scottish Executive's ongoing programme to modernise and
improve services for young people, the Executive has announced that North
Ayrshire will get a £440k share of a £12.8 million cash boost for nurseries,
pre-school and out-of-school child care facilities, and other children’s
services.
Speaking about the Executive’s commitment, the Allan Wilson MSP said:
“This additional investment from the Executive is a welcomed boost for North
Ayrshire’s nurseries and childcare centres. I know local nurseries will
already have a list of things they would want to buy with the cash, like
climbing equipment. I am confident that it will help local children to learn
and develop and create more modern environments for our children.”
“Nursery education for the pre-fives has been a priority of ours since the
first elections to the Scottish Parliament. Ten years ago only 62% of
Scotland’s 4 year olds had a place in nursery – now there is a place for
every Scottish 3 and 4 year old who wants one.”
“With almost all of Scotland’s under fives enrolled in early education,
Scotland’s participation rate of 94% is ahead of both the UK at 81% and the
international average of just 68%2 said Mr Wilson.
“This additional investment builds on this success locally and will improve
the educational experience for all those under 5s presently enrolled
concluded Mr Wilson.
